You are frustrated and scared because every time you lay down you can’t sleep. Your thoughts preconceive the notion of not falling asleep. Question is “Are you really looking forward to going to be?” No……It has become a miserable event. You lie down, start looking at the ceiling, start counting sheep, you rollover and you say I’m not comfortable then you rollover to the other side and that’s not comfortable. Now you looking at the clock and you’re like it’s 1:00am, maaannn it was just 12:00,I have to get up at 5:00am….Yes this is the typical insomniac and this goes on for hours, waking up miserable and exhausted.
REST. DIGESTION. REPAIR.
Anabolism = constructive metabolism (re-growth, repair)
Catabolism = Metabolic Breakdown (for energy burning aspect)
Your body destroys a billion cells per day and builds a billion cells per day. But the buildup happens when you are asleep. Digestion happens during sleep and so does repair.
What happens when you don’t sleep?
Once exhaustion sets in, you find yourself with a slower reaction time and reduced perception and cognition. After a day or two with no sleep the body loses its ability to properly metabolize glucose and the immune system stops working. At 3 days of no sleep you will start hallucinating. Then 5 -6 days you may develop dementia. After two weeks you will die.
Also sleep medications causes sleep disturbances while you lose R.E.M (deep sleep). Why? Because REM sleep is decreased by beta blockers, ace inhibitors or diuretics. Beta blockers cause insomnia and nightmares and suppresses REM sleep. Say for instance if a person takes pain reliever drugs (Alieve) then it contains beta blockers and it will interrupt your sleep. Sleep drugs will keep you tired after you awake.
To all the insomniacs, know that insomnia is a nervous system problem. You have to give the body the sleep it needs to regenerate. I think the easiest way to cure insomnia is to deprive yourself of sleep. The little sleep that you are getting, reverse that and don’t sleep at all. I know that sounds radical and unorthodox but if you allow exhaustion to occur then sleep will come natural the following day. The reason being is you have to reset your clock but in order to do this you shouldn’t sleep for long, I suggest only 6 hours per day so that your sleep cycles can start normalizing. Don’t eat in bed. Don’t use the computer in bed. Don’t watch TV in bed. Don’t go into the bedroom unless you are going to sleep! Then, within 5 days your clock will reset. Of course we can use herbs to correct the nervous system, the aroxial nerve need to regulate your switch when to off and when to turn on. Some of the same herbs I have for epilepsy like passion flower and skullcap will give a calming effect to the nervous system and aid you in sleep.
